19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been won on hardcourt
A comeback Daniil Medvedev won his first championship for over two years with victory over opponent Moutet in the competition championship match.
Medvedev, a ex- world number one, has endured a difficult period, winning just a single victory at the Grand Slams and undergoing a difficult moment at the New York tournament.
Medvedev's varied form on the tennis tour - and struggles with his serving in particular - caused him exiting of the top ten and ultimately splitting with former mentor his previous coach.
Presently working with Johansson and his other coach, Medvedev has consistently advanced in the past month - culminating in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over opponent Corentin Moutet.
This marks his initial championship following the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard court from March of the previous year.
The win also indicates Medvedev has secured 21 victories at twenty-one different events.
"For the first time I have attended a tournament with my two daughters together, so to get a title is really nice," commented tennis professional the champion.
"This victory is in tribute of my child her name, because the first title I got when my older daughter Alisa was born was for her."
Medvedev, the past champion, had failed in his last six championship matches, featuring in the German tournament in the past months.
His counter-punching play style and recurring emotional displays on the playing surface had caused commentators to question if his skill to play at the highest level was concluded.
However the athlete has altered his approach in recent weeks, attempting to approach the net and perform aggressively, supported by an improved serve.
Medvedev recovered from a disadvantage in the opening set against the challenging opponent, securing 4 of the final five points to take the lead.
The pair traded service breaks in the middle set before the challenger, attempting for his initial professional title, took control to force a decider.
The opponent rescued four early chances in a tight third set before Medvedev broke to 15 to close out the victory.
Fittingly, the winner secured victory with a rally at the net, with his opponent failing to handle a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
